Host your own indoor Sports Day
Keep children motivated to move during the colder months with an indoor sports tournament.
It can be challenging keeping children active and engaged during the colder months. The school playground is not as inviting as it was during the summer. However, activity and exercise are proven to aid concentration levels in the classroom, and continuing a programme of inclusive and fun PE activities can be highly beneficial for behaviour as well as health and wellbeing.
Try hosting your own Indoor Sports Day to incorporate individual and team pursuits so there’s something for everyone. Davies Sports stocks a range of inclusive and indoor-friendly products. Introduce children to strategic games like Boccia, a Paralympic sport launched in 1984, similar to bowls. It can be played by all levels and involves throwing, kicking or using a ramp to propel a ball towards a jack that is thrown close to the centreline. Two teams play six balls against one another and the team nearest to the jack at the end of the round wins.
Indoor Kurling
Indoor Kurling is another strategic game that can be played individually or in a team. Adapted from ice Curling, this can be played on a smooth, flat, indoor surface like a school hall and uses pushers instead of brushes. The stones are made from a plastic compound which can be slid across the floor easily. It’s a great game for mixed abilities and instils a sense of teamplay.
Raising the heart rate!
There are some great indoor games you can play that will get heart rates pumping and children active. Davies Sports has a vast range that caters for all age ranges.
Try our Eveque athletics packs which include running, jumping and throwing activities. View our Athletics Packs
Basketball is also another great indoor sport and can played as a tournament in itself. View our Basketball range here
Another great indoor sport is Table Tennis but if this is too advanced for your school, try a newer, easier version called Pickleball, which is a mix between badminton, table tennis and tennis. This new sport uses a lower net and larger bats making it easier for younger players. Take a look at our Pickleball range here.
